Photography Essay & Photo Ops

The first essay really made me think of the difference between document-type photos and artistic photos. There are different types of document photography in different fields of work. For example, journalism. A great deal of our information of the world come from pictures. And a lot of those pictures are documentations. If you think about it, every picture in a text book or a magazine, like, for instance, Nat Geo, those are photos teaching you things. They are documenting moments in time, history in the making. Documented photos can also be artistic, but there is a difference. Artistic photos are created to catch the eye and make the mind wonder. There is definitely an obvious difference between the two.

This essay really dragged on, but I do have some gnarly quotes from it:
- "Rather than snooze, photographic artists must be alert."
- "The value and rank of every art is in proportion to the manual labor employed in it or the mental pleasure produced by it."

Photo Ops
Digital photography is altered creativity. I liked this reading a lot more because it gave us tips and things to think about when we are taking creative photos. It gave me a greater understanding on symmetry and asymmetry. Symmetry is the yin, and asymmetry is the yang. Symmetry is easy for the eye to understand, while asymmetry is wild and confusing, but it can be a good thing sometimes. Repetition is intriguing and eye catching. I did agree with their close ups paragraph. It gives the audience a much detailed view on the object in question. I never thought of framing before. The most effective examples of framing are the ones that are scarcely noticed. I never really gave framing much of a thought until now.
