I know I haven't posted in a while. Things have been CRAZY these last few weeks. My boyfriend, who is in the United States Navy, is coming home for Christmas and I've been running around trying to get things ready for his return, plus work, and build my lamp.
I will post some more updates soon! Bare with me!!

Trying to squeeeeze in some time.
I almost have my photobook ready. I hope it looks decent. All we need now is a group photo and then it's ready to print. It's a 3x36 accordion fold with a hard front and back cover, covered in photographs in a black, thick paper. I'm just really nervous about the whole thing :/ A lot of things in all my classes are due this week and there aren't enough hours in the day :c
More photos!
I edited more photos this morning for my photobook. These are of the construction work.
Some of these photos might not be used, so I plan on using them for my process book. The process book is almost finished. I have all the reflections written. Just have to design it and place them in the right spot, and we're good to go! I feel like I should be stressing out but I think I'll be fine. I just want this to go great. Ya feel me?

These are my reflections~
Did you get my Usher reference? No? Okay :/ I think I will post a majority of my small reflections here for Project 3. The larger, more singular ones like I have posted before might be single posts. I dunno. I just need to get this done before I head off to the gym!
Alright then. Let's get this started!
About the project:
For this project, we were supposed to express the meaning of a word that was given to us using 3ft tall construction of the word and by a photo book showing the process of the word and the word around campus. Our group's word was 'squeeze'. At first, we didn't really know what to do with our word. Then, it just came to us and was really easy. We decided to cut the word into 3 parts, and use those parts to help us guide the viewer into understanding the parts of the word. It made it look as if we were literally squeezing the word together to get this look. Our goal was to make people understand what we were trying to convey with the word on sight. We squeezed it under a tunnel, into a parking spot, and into a corner. We wanted to see if we could squeeze them into pants but that was impossible. I really do think we exemplified this word correctly, and I'm very proud of it. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into this project, also a lot of time. I guess you can say we had to 'squeeze' in some time for this project.
Definition of our word:
squeeze, noun. to press forcibly together; compress. to thrust forcibly; force by pressure; cram. to fit into a small or crowded space or timespan. to exert a compressing force. to force a way through some narrow or crowded place. to merge or come together.
There are many other uses of squeeze, but these are the ones that made me think are an accurate definition of what we were trying to convey with our word.
Parts of the Projects
What did I learn
- Team work is essential. When one team member falls, it is difficult to come back together. I learned this too with the last project as well. I also learned a lot about patience. I have none of it! Learning about the typefaces was my favorite part of the project. That, and placing the word in different parts of campus and seeing strangers walk up and take pictures of it. I was really proud of our work. I loved telling them about our project and what we were trying to do with it. And most of the onlookers understood what we were trying to convey, and it really made me happy and satisfied with it. I felt like all the hard work really payed off. And I think that's what I really took from this project. If you give something all of your time and effort, it turns out to be amazing.
Difficulties and Solutions
- A lot of our difficulties was communication and team work. It was hard to get everyone together because of scheduling and plans. But we did it! We all made sure to be at my apartment at a certain time and we worked all through the night. We had problems, sure. One team member was sick one day, and the other drove all the way from her hometown just to turn around because she had car troubles. Those things were understandable and we worked with the problems. We made sure to send her off with more letters to construct and it worked out. The most successful solution that I learned was to just let the little things go and focus on what's important. If we ran out of spray paint, we sent someone to get some more. If we ran out of cardboard, we made sure to scrounge some up as fast as we could. If a letter wasn't complying, we would pass it off to the next person and start on a new one. We each had our own little job. We took turns spray painting, constructing, cutting cardboard, and cutting parts of the letters off. It felt (and smelled) like a workshop in my apartment for a while. If we had a problem, we made sure to solve it with a clear head.
Team Dynamics
Our team worked well together. We did have problems with one team member. A lot was miscommunication and hurt feelings. As an individual, I found time and money to be a problem. I wish I had an endless bank account and a lot more hours in the day. There were some points where I would throw my boxcutter across the room (don't worry, no one was in the way) and just lay there and wonder, "Why me?" This project was very stressful. But I feel like I work well under pressure. As a group, things were rocky at the end. I think it was because each of us just didn't have time along with other things in our lives, like travel, jobs, other classes, sorority chapter. We had to take all of that into consideration and work with it. And if that meant that a team member or two had to be left out, then so be it, as long as the work was done at the end of the day, I don't care who did it. No one ditched the project for anything else. Everyone was committed, but other aspects of our lives kept us from working together most of the time. But look, it all payed off. There are no more hard feelings. Everyone is pleased with their work, and so am I. I made new friends this project and I'm really happy with the way everything turned out. Every group has problems and conflicts of their own. No one is without them. You just have to move past it. Keep calm and carry on.
Construction & Meaning
By cutting the letters into thirds, it really helped us to 'squeeze' our letters into the places we wanted them to. In some cases, we used the whole letters in have the word, and 2/3 of the letters with the other half, making it possible for us to fit them where we wanted them. We made sure to place them where people can a) see them b) understand the word and c) understand WHY we put them there. Getting them to stay was a problem we quickly solved with some tape! I believe that the way we constructed them was unique and fit the word precisely. Many people from other groups really understood our reasoning and liked it! It gave us more fuel to finish our construction so we can start shooting photos. I think the photos do show off our meaning and what we are trying to convey. Overall I'm really pleased with the whole project.

Parts of the Letter
I believe it is important for designers to know the fundamentals of typography and all the aspects of it. This then helps the designer pick a typeface that fits well with his design. In my personal opinion, a good font/typeface is one of the most important keys to a good design. I feel like it really ties the design together. I spend a good one to two hours picking out a good font for my designs. I really, really enjoyed this reading because typography is one of the main reasons why I switched to graphic design.I am absolutely crazy about fonts, so it was really fun to learn the history and body parts of a typeface. I can talk about this all day if I could, haha. I had no idea there was so much stuff to learn! There are so many body parts and rules that I never even payed mind to. I was really, really excited to do this project and read this pdf.
